Smriti Irani criticized Congress for delay in announcing candidate from Amethi, and said it only showed fear of defeat. Rahul Gandhi had previously represented Amethi in Parliament from 2002 to 2019, but was defeated by Smriti Irani in the 2019 elections. Congress district president Pradeep Singhal claimed that Rahul Gandhi will be contesting from Amethi in the upcoming elections.
